Vinyasa Yoga (All Levels): Vinyasa means to link movement with breath and intention or to arrange and place in a special way. Shanti Yoga Shala’s Vinyasa Yoga classes offer fun, vigorous and energetic asana (pose) sequences taught in a flow-style, inter-linking poses through a series of movements. The Vinyasa Yoga sequences encourage strength and flexibility, while enhancing respiration, circulation and lymphatic flow helping to heat the muscles and connective tissue and detoxify the body.

Music, chanting, philosophy, mediation and Yin  (passive) poses to help release stress and tension and leave you feeling calm, energized and empowered are incorporated into each class.

In these all levels classes variations will be offered to help accommodate all levels of practitioners. Some experience with Sun Salutes suggested but not required. The class is called “All Levels” because it is open and suitable to all levels of practitioner. Even so, beginning level students should know that there will not be much detailed “how to do” descriptions; for that a student is advised to attend a Basic or Beginner Vinyasa Class. The length of an Open class may differ at different centers, so please check the schedule for the center you are attending.

Because Vinyasa Yoga does not have only one Guru (teacher) each of our Vinyasa Yoga teachers brings their own background, teachers and experiences to their classes. Please visit the teachers’ page to learn about each teacher’s inspirations for teaching.

Vinyasa Level 1/2: This 75 minute Vinyasa class will dive deep into all asanas with a non-aggressive approach and moderate pace which allows you to dissolve into a more open, graceful body and relax into a steady mind. This class is open to all levels, but due to the slower tempo it is appropriate for beginners as well.

Vinyasa Level 2/3: This 90 minute vinyasa yoga class teaches the basic principles of working at a deeper level. Longer posture holds, abdominal core work, attention to alignment, and a deep emphasis of feeling and breathing spaciousness throughout the body characterize this transformative practice. This class is suitable for all levels, options are provided for the beginning and advanced student.

Daytime Vinyasa Yoga for Busy People: These 1 hour All Levels Vinyasa Yoga classes are designed for busy people who only have an hour to practice. The class is fast paced and invigorating and is certainly a “get-in-shape” class.  It is a fully balanced class which includes asana warm-up, chanting, setting of intention, surya namaskar, standing poses, backbends, forward bends, twists, inversions, meditation and relaxation. All levels of yogis are welcome. $10 drop in or $40 for 5 classes.

Gentle Vinyasa: Gentle Yoga is a class structured around rejuvenating and healing the body. This class is held at a slower pace and focuses on stretching all areas of the body, while releasing stress and tension from joints and muscles. Appropriate for beginners and those interested in less sweat and more stretch. $10 Drop-In

Beginner Vinyasa Yoga: If you’re a beginner struggling with downward dog or a more advanced student perfecting your shoulder stand, give the Beginner Vinyasa Class a try. Take advantage of a more intimate environment and focus on the fundamentals. Each week of the month features a concentration: standing poses, forward bends, back bends, and finally inversions. This class is ideally suited to guide Beginner’s through the initial journey into yoga. This is a perfect way for you to start yoga in a relaxed, comfortable and nurturing environment.

This class is for absolutely anyone of any age, shape or size to experience the many benefits of yoga. No experience or flexibility required. Focus is on the correct positioning of basic yoga postures within one’s own body, while using props to increase the freedom and mobility of the body while concentrating on the breath to quiet the mind.

This class will dive deep into all asanas with a non-aggressive approach and moderate pace which allows you to dissolve into a more open, graceful body and relax into a steady mind.

Sadhana Vinyasa: Sadhana (“accomplishing”): spiritual discipline leading to siddhi (“perfection” or “accomplishment”). These 90 minute vinyasa classes are mini-workshops, comprised of 1) Yoga Philosophy, 2) Meditation, 3) Guided Asana, 4) Freeform, 5) Deep relaxation. You will have the freedom to “workshop” anything that would be interesting to you and our students. Specific types of asanas, yin or restorative, specific philosophy focuses, etc. These classes will be an opportunity to introduce our students to deeper yoga experiences than we touch on in a regular vinyasa class. Each class will have a different focus. All of the Shanti Yoga Shala Vinyasa teachers will rotate teaching these classes.
